To increase the impact of and empower the research done here at Hiroshima University, we are offering three types of subsidies and supports to pay the Article Processing Charge (APC) needed to make your articles open and visible.
- APC Subsidy for Q1 Journal Articles
Those accepted by a Nature Research Journal or Science Advances will be compensated for the full APC amount. Those accepted by other Q1 journal will be compensated for the full APC amount if a first or corresponding author is age 35 and under. Those who are above the age of 35 will be compensated for 30% of the APC amount.

- APC Support through Transformative Agreement (Springer, Wiley)
Starting in January of 2024, HU will begin supporting APC’s through Transformative Agreements with Springer Nature and Wiley on a trial basis. A Transformative Agreement is a contract with a publisher which combines the publishing fees and subscription fees into one. With these contracts, the University can bear the burden of Journal APC fees, allowing researchers to publish open access in these publisher’s journals without bearing any extra expense. However, each publisher has a different limit on the number of APC’s they can support.
